The number of foreign tourists who visited Bulgaria in May soared to some 365,600 from 120,400 in the same month last year, official statistics showed on Tuesday.
Citizens of EU member states made up 45% of all arrivals of international visitors in May, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a monthly report on tourist numbers.
The arrivals of citizens from Romania increased the most among EU member states in the month under review - by 47% compared to May 2020. Arrivals from Turkey formed 53% of all visits of tourists from countries of the 'other European countries' group, NSI also said.
The number of people who visited friends or relatives in Bulgaria or just transited the country represented 66% of all arrivals of foreign nationals in May. Vacation trips and business trips accounted for 17% and 17% of all international visitors' arrivals, respectively.
