The number of foreign tourists visiting Bulgaria rose by an annual 5.4% to 2.24 million in August, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Friday. Citizens of EU member states accounted for 62.3% of all arrivals of international visitors in August, the NSI said in a monthly report on tourist numbers. Vacation trips made up 54.7% of all foreign tourist visits in August, while business trips accounted for 7.3%. The number of people who visited friends or relatives in Bulgaria or just transited the country constituted 35.4% of all arrivals of foreign nationals in August. In August, the largest share of foreign tourists came from Germany, Romania and Turkey.
