Foreign Tourist Arrivals in Bulgaria Rise 4.8% Y/Y in May

Foreign tourist arrivals in Bulgaria totalled 634,800 in May, up 4.8% on the year, official statistics showed.
Nationals of EU member states accounted for 59.2% of foreign tourist arrivals in Bulgaria last month, the National Statistics Institute said in a press release. Their number decreased by 1.0% on the year to 375,628.
In May, the most significant annual increase was registered in the number of tourists arriving from Austria and Germany, up by 13.2% and 6.5%, respectively.
Tourist arrivals from European non-EU member states went up by 17.5% on the year to over 204,508 in May, as visitors from Russia and Ukraine increased by 41.0% and 36.8%, respectively.
As many as 44.9% of all foreign tourists who arrived in Bulgaria last month were holidaymakers, 40.7% were visiting friends or relatives, or just transiting the country and 14.4% came for business reasons.
