Foreign tourist arrivals in Bulgaria increased by 37% on the month but dropped by 14% from a year earlier to 461,712 in April, official statistics showed.
Tourist arrivals from EU member states fell by 23.3% from April 2011 to 269,014, the National Statistics Institute reported on its website on Monday.
In April, the sharpest annual decrease was registered in the number of tourists from Greece and Romania, down by 28.3% and 26.7%, respectively.
The number of tourist arrivals from European non-EU member states increased by 5.9% on the year to 154,814 in April, as visitors from Russia went up by an annual 22.2%.
About 48% of all foreign tourists who visited Bulgaria last month were guests or just transiting the country, 33.6% were holidaymakers and 18.4% came on business.
