Foreign Min. welcomes UN announcement of informal summit on Cyprus issue

Greece welcomes the announcement by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres of an informal summit on the Cyprus issue to be held in Geneva on April 27-29, the Greek Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

The aim of this conference is to find common ground that will lead to substantial negotiations towards resolving the Cyprus issue, the ministry emphasized.

A potential solution should be based on UN Security Council resolutions, should be compatible with European Law and should lead to a functional and sustainable bi-communal, bi-zonal federation, it noted.

The ministry said that Greece, as a guarantor power, is willing to participate in the upcoming Geneva meeting, so as to contribute constructively in achieving the informal summit's target.
