FinMin Rules Out Extension of Surtax on Real Estate

The finance ministry said an extension by another year to the extraordinary surtax on real estate - known as “charatsi” - collected via electricity bills, is unlikely, the Athens News Agency – Macedonian Press Agency reported, quoting sources from the ministry.
The extension option was presented as a counter-proposal in an effort to prevent the implementation of the single real estate tax, according to the same sources.
The recent proposal by MPs of New Democracy that the extraordinary surtax measure should remain in force until the necessary corrections were made in the single tax, would probably be challenged on constitutional grounds considering the surtax's extraordinary nature, the news agency also said, quoting reliable sources.
