Deputy prime minister and finance minister Simeon Dyankov was elected chairman of the supervisory board of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, prime minister Boiko Borisov said.
Dyankov is the first finance minister of a country of the former socialist bloc to be elected at this position, Borisov said, as quoted by the state-run Bulgarian National Radio.
Dyankov will chair the EBRD supervisory board until the bank's 2013 annual meeting in Turkey. Each EBRD member state has one representative in the board.
For his part, Dyankov said that the fact that he comes from a country in which the EBRD has projects in progress will not be an obstacle in his work but just the reverse, it makes Bulgaria much better acquainted with the type of projects that work.
