Fighting cybercrime is now among the Bulgarian government's priorities, Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov said after meeting with FBI Director Robert Mueller during his visit to Sofia.
Cybercrime was among the key topics discussed by the two officials, online news portal Dnevnik (www.dnevnik.bg) reported on Thursday.
Tsvetanov said he is confident that the access that the cybercrime unit of Bulgaria's Anti-organised Crime Directorate General will get to the expertise of FBI agents as of next year will boost their crime-fighting capabilities.
During Tsvetanov's visit to Washington last month, it was announced that the FBI would station a special agent in Sofia that would collaborate with the cybercrime unit of the Anti-organised Crime Directorate General for the prevention of Internet-related criminal activities like distribution of child pornography, identity theft and online fraud.
