Excise Tax Does Not Explain Expensive Diesel Fuel

The high price of diesel fuel in Bulgaria could not be explained with the excise tax rate, said Monday former EU Commissioner Meglena Kuneva. Kuneva attended the opening of a national career forum in Varna, on the Black Sea. In her words, under a 2003 EU directive, Bulgaria has one of the longest grace periods to reach the minimum diesel excise tax rate in the EU. Kuneva explained that currently excise tax is 615 leva per 1,000 litres of diesel fuel. In 2013 it should become 645 leva per 1,000 litres, as is the minimum EU-wide. /Source: BTA/
