EVN proposes 19.5% increase in power transmission prices

Power distributor EVN Bulgaria, the local unit of Austria's EVN servicing the southeastern parts of the country, is seeking a 19.48 per cent increase in low-voltage electricity transmission prices to 4.7 stotinki a kWh as of July 1 2011, the company said.EVN has estimated that the potential hike will translate into a five per cent increase in the final electricity price for households, provided that the other prices on the chain stay intact. The power supplier has also calculated that if the other entities engaged in the power transmission process, including peers CEZ and E.ON, state-run power utility NEK and its electricity system operator NEK, households' monthly electricity bills will grow by 2.36 leva on average to 41.13 leva.NEK has already said it would seek an increase of about five per cent in electricity prices, while CEZ and E.ON are expected to have submitted their proposals on February 27.EVN attributed its decision to demand higher electricity prices to the need of raising its revenues in order to secure funds for the upgrade of its power transmission network. The State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission will announce the revised electricity prices at the end of June 2011. /Source: The Sofia Echo/
