Greek Ambassador to Bulgaria Dimitrios Chronopoulos, HBCB BoD Chairman Stamatis Theodoropoulos and HBCB BoD member Harissis Bailas on April 21th 2021 visited the town of Pravets for a meeting with Mayor Rumen Guninski and Evgeni Dimitrov, Director of several centers for social services for children and youth with disabilities. Mr.Dimitrov manages a Family-type Accommodation Center (FTAC), Sheltered Housing located in the village of Vidrare, and a Social Rehabilitation and Integration Centre (SRIC).
The occasion of the visit was to present the Home with donations, raised in a Christmas donation initiative organized by the Greek embassy in Sofia in cooperation with HBCB.
The donation is part of an ongoing commitment made by Former Greek President Karolos Papoulias’ spouse during their February 2007 visit in Bulgaria. The Greek President’s spouse was accompanied by Former Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov’s spouse at the Home for Mentally Retarded Children in Vidrare. Following the visit, The Embassy of Greece in Bulgaria donated EUR 50 000 for the construction of new sheltered housing to accommodate at least a part of the children that have come to age.
The Pravets FTAC provides shelter and care for 14 children and youth with different degree of disability, whereas the sheltered housing in Vidrare accommodates 8 young people with mild levels of disability, but still needing support. The Pravets-based SRIC has a 30-individual capacity, and aims to provide individual development for children and youth with different levels of disability, and potentially prevent them from being socially excluded.
