Europol Director: Bulgaria Shows Positive Signs of Fighting Organized Crime

"The last two years have seen many positive signs of response to organized crime in Bulgaria thanks to the efforts of the Prime Minister and of Minister Tsvetanov, who are sending a very clear message that they are firmly resolved to combat organized crime in order to make Bulgaria and Europe a safer place for their citizens," Europol Director Rob Wainwright said in Sofia on Monday, speaking through an interpreter. He had talks with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov.

Wainwright said Europol and Bulgaria have carried out many successful joint operations. Monday's talks looked at ways to make this cooperation even more successful and to pool the efforts against the main criminal groups in Bulgaria, he said. The Prime Minister thanked Minister Tsvetanov's team and the experts of Europol, the State Agency for National Security and the Interior Ministry. (Source: BTA)
