The first day of the EU summit was concluded without an agreement on the top positions in the European institutions. "There was no majority for any candidate," European Council President Donald Tusk said during the press conference he gave at the end of the meeting. He also announced that a new summit will be held next Sunday, June 30. Tusk and outgoing European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker stressed the importance of EU leaders condemning Turkey's actions on the Cypriot EEZ. "The European Council is ready to respond appropriately and with full solidarity to Cyprus," said Tusk. "We had an important meeting, especially as far as it concerns Cyprus," Jean-Claude Juncker said on his part. He also said that "what Turkey is doing in the territorial waters of Cyprus" is unacceptable adding that the measures to be proposed by the Commission will not be insignificant.
