EU Council Working Group on Schengen Enlargement Approves Conclusively Bulgaria's Technical Preparedness for Entry

A working group with the EU Council dealing with the enlargement of the Schengen area approved unanimously and conclusively on Tuesday Bulgaria's technical preparedness to join the border control free area, said Ambassador Boyko Kotsev, head of Bulgaria's Permanent Representation to the EU.

Tuesday's decision completes the technical assessment stage. It will be followed by the EU justice and home affairs ministers reaching full unanimity.

Ambassador Kotsev expects them to make a conclusive political decision by the year's end.

On June 7, the European Parliament is to adopt a resolution on a report by Carlos Coelho MEP on Bulgaria's and Romania's preparedness to join the Schengen area. (Source: BTA)
