Environment and Energy Minister George Stathakis on Monday gave assurances that Greece will have electricity in 2020 and PPC will not collapse.
Stathakis was speaking at a conference on energy transition that the Hellenic Association for Energy Economics has organised in Athens.
During the conference, Stathakis noted that the liquidity of the company has been ensured, and he once again ruled out the possibility of raising tariffs.
Greece will be an entry point of energy for the countries of the region as the TAP gas pipeline, as well as the Greek-Bulgarian pipeline will begin operating in 2020, while the upgrading of the Liquidified Natural Gas station in Revythousa has started, he said. At the same time, Stathakis noted that Greece is working for the construction of the EastMed pipeline that will transport gas from the eastern Mediterranean region through Greece to Europe.
The minister also referred to the objectives of the National Energy and Climate Plan that include energy saving, transport electrification, the development of renewable energy sources, leading to the elimination of the use of fossil fuels after 2050, while emphasising the interconnection of the islands that will phase out the use of diesel in power generation.
