EC opens telecom rules infringement case against Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Slovenia

The European Commission said that it has opened infringement procedures against 24 member states, including Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Slovenia, over their failure to enact new EU telecom rules.

The deadline for transposing the European Electronic Communications Code into national legislation was December 21, 2020, the Commission said in a statement on Thursday.

The code modernises the European regulatory framework for electronic communications, to enhance consumers' choices and rights, for example by ensuring clearer contracts, quality of services, and competitive markets, the Commission added.

The countries have two months to reply to the letters of formal notice sent by the Commission.
