Early Bookings Signal Growth of Foreign Tourist Arrivals

Early bookings for the summer holidays indicate growth in the number of foreign tourist arrivals this year, with Russian citizens continuing to dominate.

The number of Russians who visited Bulgaria last year rose by nearly a third to over 600,000, and this trend is expected to persist with early bookings so far showing an increase by 9.0%, the Bulgarian National Television reported.

Bulgaria expects to welcome 20-25% more Russians this year and 3.0-4.0% more Germans, the economy ministry's tourism policy director, Maria Ivanova, said.

The number of tourists in Bulgaria's ski resorts this winter season is expected to reach 1.5 million by the end of April.
