The Coalition for Bulgaria, led by Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) said it has started consultations on a no confidence motion following the ruling centre-right party GERB's decision to halt the Belene nuclear power plant project.
"This [Parliament's decision to back the government's decision to drop the Belene project] again brings to the fore the issue of a no confidence vote over the [government's] failed energy policy," state-run Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) quoted the coalition's deputy floor leader Petar Dimitrov as saying.
The Coalition for Bulgaria insists a referendum on whether to proceed with the plant's construction should be initiated and a report conducted by project consultants HSBC should be made public, BNR added.
According to the coalition, by deciding to abandon the Belene project, Bulgaria tuned its back to its largest strategic project which would have helped it quickly exit the economic crisis.
