Bulgartransgaz Launches Open Season Process for Gas Storage Expansion

Bulgaria’s gas transmission system operator Bulgartransgaz launched an open season process for a planned expansion of the underground gas storage facility in Chiren, in the northwest of the country, the company said.
Bulgartransgaz is inviting all interested parties to take part in a preliminary market research by sending letters of intent to expand the capacity of the Chiren gas storage facility, it said in a statement.
The market research will provide information about the potential need for additional gas storage capacity after 2017, the company said, adding the data will be used for the purposes of a feasibility study.
Chiren, Bulgaria's only gas storage facility, has a s total capacity of 1.3 billion cubic metres (cu m) of gas, including 750 million cu m of buffer gas. It has 22 wells and a compressor station with a total capacity of 10 megawatts.
