Bulgaria’s Blagoevgrad Has Potential to Develop the ICT Sector and Digital Skills in the Town: MEP

“In order to make the most of the opportunities of the digital single market in the EU, we must encourage digitisation of business and the acquisition of skills for the use of digital technologies by more people. Local authorities are a key partner in this process and Blagoevgrad is an example of taking decisive steps for development of ICT (information and communications technology) and digital skills.” That is what MEP with Citizens for European Development (CEDB)/ European People’s Party (EPP), Eva Paunova, said at a roundtable discussion in the town of Blagoevgrad, focused on the development of the ICT sector in the region and in Bulgarian, the press centre of CEDB party announced.
The event is organised by Blagoevgrad Municipality together with Bulgarian Association of Information Technologies (BAIT). It was opened by Mayor Dr. Atanas Kambitov and MEP Vladimir Urutchev.
During the event was signed a memorandum of cooperation between the Municipality of Blagoevgrad, BAIT, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, American University in Bulgaria and others. Its goal is the development of the ICT sector in the municipality, promoting education of software courses of students and linking education with the specific needs of the ICT sector.
The parties to the memorandum agreed to exchange information, knowledge, experience, ideas and best practices and to organise consultations at expert and management level. They will cooperate to attract leading investors in high-tech industries and services.
