Bulgaria’s unemployment rate increased by 1.1 percentage points year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2020, to to 5.2%, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Monday.
Youth unemployment, in the age bracket 15-29 years, added 2.6 pp on the year to 9.3% in the last quarter of 2020, NSI said in a quarterly labour force survey.
The long-term unemployment rate, i.e. people who have been without a job for more than a year was 2.6%, or 85,100 people.
The employment rate among people aged 15 to 64 fell 1.2 pp year-on-year to 68.8% in the fourth quarter. The percentage of economically active people aged 15-64 decreased by 0.3 pp to 72.7%.
There were some 1.2 million economically inactive people aged 15-64 in the fourth quarter, or 27.3% of the population in this age group.
