Bulgaria’s unemployment rate increased by 0.9 percentage points year-on-year to 5.1% in 2020, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Monday.
Youth unemployment, in the age bracket 15-29 years, went up by an annual 1.9 pp to 8.8% last year, NSI said in a quarterly labour force survey.
The long-term unemployment rate, i.e. people who have been without a job for more than a year was 2.3%, or 75,900 people.
The employment rate among people aged 15 to 64 was 68.5% in 2020, corresponding to over 3 million people. The percentage of economically active people in the same age group was 72.2%, or approximately 3.2 million.
There were over 1.2 million economically inactive people aged 15-64 last year, or 27.8% of the population in this age group.
