Bulgaria's labour productivity falls 1.6% y/y in Q3 - prelim data

The gross domestic product (GDP) per person employed in Bulgaria fell by an annual 1.6% to 8,826.2 levs ($5,500/4,500 euro) in the third quarter of 2020, the statistical office said on Friday, citing preliminary data.

Gross value added (GVA) both per person employed and per hour worked declined by a real 2.3% on an annual comparison basis in the July-September period of the year, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a statement.

GVA per person employed in the industrial sector was 8,427.5 levs in the review period. In the services sector, an average of 7,874.4 levs gross value added was generated by a person employed.

The lowest labour productivity was recorded in the agricultural sector - 2,614.7 levs.

Some 3.6 million people were employed in Bulgaria's economy at the end of the third quarter, while the total number of hours worked was 1.44 billion, according to the NSI.
