Bulgaria's consumer prices rose by 10% year-on-year in February following an annual increase of 9.1% in January, the statistical office said on Tuesday, citing preliminary data.
On a monthly comparison basis, consumer prices added 1.4% in the second month of 2022 after rising by 1.5% in the previous month, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a monthly inflation report.
In February, the highest annual price increase, of 20.9%, was registered in the transport sector, which has the third-highest weight in the consumer basket, the NSI said.
Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which have the largest weight in the consumer basket, rose by an annual 13.6% in the month under review. Prices in the other major category - housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, went up by 12.9% year-on-year in February.
Bulgaria’s EU-harmonised consumer price index (HICP) added 8.4% on an annual comparison basis in February and was 1.2% higher month-on-month.
