Bulgarian state-owned railway company BDZ Passengers said that it has put into operation three new Siemens Smartron locomotives, which it received as part of a contract with a tie-up between Siemens Mobility Austria and Siemens Mobility Bulgaria.

BDZ Passengers expects to receive a total of 15 new Siemens Smartron locomotives this year, the company said in a statement on Thursday.

The company has received 6 of the 15 locomotives thus far.

Last year, BDZ Passengers signed a 55.5 million levs ($34.8 million/28.4 million euro) deal for the purchase of 10 Siemens locomotives, followed by a second 27.2 million levs contract for 5 more locomotives.
