Bulgarian tie-up to build 3.2 mln euro composting installation in Velingrad

Bulgaria's Velingrad municipality said on Thursday that it has awarded a 6.2 million levs ($3.5 million/3.2 million euro) deal to a local consortium for construction of a facility for pre-treatment of municipal waste and composting installation for green waste.The contract with the consortium comprising three companies - Balkanika Energy, R-Studio and Zaechki, was signed on December 27, the Velingrad municipality said in a notice. According to Registry Agency data, Balkanika Energy controls 92% interest in the consortium. Under the terms of the contract, the winner will also be responsible for the project design, delivery and installation of the necessary equipment and construction supervision. The project benefits from EU financing under operational programme Environment 2014-2020.The public procurement procedure for awarding the contracts has attracted four bids. The offers were ranked predominantly based on technical criteria which carried a 60% weight in the overall score. Sofia-based Balkanika Energy is active in the implementation of investment projects in the production and utilization of energy from renewable, conventional and alternative energy sources as well as sustainable systems for waste recovery, according to information published on its website.
