The national council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) unanimously decided to nominate its leader Sergei Stanishev as president of the Party of European Socialists (PES).
Left parties should come up with a more explicit left, social policy, as the crisis both in Bulgaria and in Europe will continue to aggravate, Stanishev said after 114 council members, including former Bulgarian president Georgi Parvanov, backed his nomination for PES president, BSP said in a statement published on its website.
In Stanishev's words, his possible election as PES president would give BSP a big advantage and boost public confidence in it, and would open up new opportunities for Bulgaria, BNT reported.
