Bulgaria's National Revenue Agency (NRA) will check 3,000 local companies, which posted drastic changes in their turnovers following the mandatory live link-up of all cash registers with the agency earlier this month.
"We currently monitor all 300,000 cash registers in the country. The software is designed so that it can display those merchants whose turnover does not correspond to the reality. We know what are the average turnovers in a certain industry and region, so we check everything very carefully," broadcaster bTV cited NRA spokesman Rosen Bachvarov as saying.
Bulgarian companies were set an April 2 deadline to link up online their cash registers with an NRA database, which allows the agency to track any commercial activity in real time.
NRA carried out 10,000 random checks during a period of 10 days and found no cash registers without a connection with the database, Bachvarov added.
