Bulgaria and Romania have many common interests and similar positions in both bilateral aspect and on many issues within the European Union and the development of regional and international cooperation. This was the position of Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev and the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania Valeriu Zgonya who met on Wednesday in Sofia, the press secretariat of the head of state, announced.
They agreed that bilateral relations develop with intensive pace on the basis of the principles of good neighbour relations, shared Euro-Atlantic values and mutual interest.
“Together and only together we are strong. Today, when Europe is hit by a series of crises we can overcome them only if we are united. None of these crises has independent decision,” President Plevneliev said during the meeting.
“Our priorities and goals are similar. Together we must develop our regional cooperation, which is extremely important. Therefore we welcome the Memorandum of Cooperation between the parliaments of our two countries, which was signed earlier in the day,” Valeriu Zgonya said in his turn.
President Plevneliev stressed the importance of the Sofia Strategy for the Rights of the Child adopted yesterday within the Bulgarian presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
