Bulgarian PM Urges Senior Officials to Return Bonuses

Prime Minister Boiko Borisov requested from all ministers and regional governors, as well as their deputies, and chefs de cabinets, who received bonus payments in the past two years, to return the money or donate it, threatening to otherwise fire them.

During a regular meeting of the cabinet on Wednesday Borisov said that all senior officials should return by Friday any extra money they had received.

According to data for 2010, some 12 or 13 ministers and deputy ministers received some 100,000 levs in bonuses, the state-run Bulgarian National Television (BNT) reported, quoting finance minister Simeon Dyankov. Data for 2011 is still being compiled, he added.
