Bulgarian Banks' Net Profit Rises in Jan-July

The combined net profit of the banks operating in Bulgaria increased to 951 million levs ($565 million/486.2 million euro) in the January-July period of 2018, from 790 million in the same period a year earlier, the country's central bank said on Friday.Interest income edged down to 1.75 billion levs from 1.79 billion levs in the first seven months of 2017, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said in a regular report on the performance of the country's banks.Fee and commission income rose to 710.3 million levs in the period under review from 655.5 million levs in the like period of 2017.The banking sector's net operating income edged up to 2.38 in January-July, from 2.19 billion levs in the corresponding period of 2017.The banks' total assets increased to 102.3 billion levs at the end of July, from 93.4 billion levs a year earlier.Twenty-one banks and five branches of foreign banks operated in Bulgaria as at end-July, according to BNB data.(1 euro=1.95583 levs)
