“Bulgaria will assume the rotating presidency of the EU on 1 January, 2018 or six months earlier than planned due to Britain’s decision is to leave the EU,” said Deputy Prime Minister for European Policies Coordination and Institutional Affairs Meglena Kuneva. The decision was made by the Council of the EU on Tuesday night. Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov commented that the Bulgarian rotating presidency comes at a very difficult time, when the country will have to negotiate the conditions for Great Britain’s leaving the EU.
