Minister Pavlova: Bulgaria to Seek Balance but Also Defend Own Stand during EU Council Presidency

Apart from being a well-balanced president of the EU Council, Bulgaria will also have to defend its national stand, the Minister of Bulgaria’s EU Council Presidency 2018, Lilyana Pavlova, said at the conference Flexible European Budget and Financial Instruments in Support of the Construction Sector, quoted by FOCUS News Agency.
According to Pavlova, our country has to propose a way to better combine grant funding with the financial instruments. She also emphasised on the importance for Bulgaria to outline in advance the priorities and the stand it will defend in the common European debate.
"We have a specific role. On the one hand, as presidents of the Council, we have to balance, be an arbitrator and a neutral moderator on all topics of the European agenda," while on the other hand, the country has to defend its national stance, the minister explained.
She added that the debate on the future financial framework and on the future, specific cohesion policy will start during the Bulgarian presidency.
