Bulgaria will open a tender to award a concession for the Sofia Airport in six months, the transport minister said.
The ministry is conducting financial, economic and social pre-concession analyses, which are to be completed within six months, and a tender procedure will then be announced, the government quoted on its website transport minister Ivaylo Moskovski as saying.
The scope of the concession contract may be expanded to include the coastal airport of Balchik, as well, but this is yet to be decided taking into account investor interest, the transport minister said, adding that Bulgaria expects investors from Germany and Qatar to show interest.
Last year the International Court of Arbitration in Paris ruled that the Sofia Airport has to pay $38 million (28.8 million euro) to a Kuwaiti consortium that built its new runaway for failing to provide timely access to the construction site. The airport has still not paid the money.
