Bulgaria will allocate 458 million euro ($556.4 million) under the EU's operational programme Rural Development to farmers this year, the agriculture ministry said.

The funding is intended to support investments in agricultural companies and in the processing and marketing of agricultural products, the agriculture ministry said in a statement last week.

The EU funds will also be used to aid young farmers and small farms who are just starting their business.

According to the statement, Bulgaria will benefit from some 887 million euro under operational programme Rural Development in 2021 and 2022.
