Bulgaria Should Restore National Audit Office's Independence
Thursday, 20 November 2014
Ingeborg Grassle, Chair of the European Parliament Budgetary Control Committee, expressed her certainty that under the Government of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Bulgaria will follow the road along which it will be supported by the European Parliament and the EUthrough the resources under operational programmes. Grassle was speaking during a working meeting with GERB floor leader Tsvetan Tsvetanov in Brussels, the party's press centre said.
Grassle said she expects the new majority in the Bulgarian Parliament and the Government to make the necessary legislative changes which would once again guarantee the National Audit Office's independence from the political parties. She underscored that the independence of this audit body is of exceptional importance not only because of its control over the national budget's resources, but also because the National AuditOffice is a guarantee of the transparent absorption of EU funds.
At the end of the meeting, Grassle cabled congratulations to Borissov on winning the parliamentary elections and the efforts made in the formation of a stable government.
