Bulgaria Sets Minimum Pension at 180 Leva

After an hour of heated debates and sharp verbal exchanges between the ruling majority and the opposition, the Bulgarian MPs finally agreed to raise the minimum pension in the poorest EU member state to 180 leva (about 90 euro) as of July 1st.
The decision was backed by all 187 MPs in Plenary Hall.
The minimum pension now is 161 leva, or about 80 euro.
At today's sitting of the Parliament it was also agreed that the poorest pensioners in Bulgaria, about 800,000 people, will be kept alive with 200 leva per month, or about 100 euro, as of October 1st.
