Bulgaria Sends off Successful Year in Terms of Construction: Development Minister (ROUNDUP)

“We are sending off a successful year in terms of construction. We worked actively not only in the field of road construction but also on many project for urban development and municipal infrastructure,” Bulgarian Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova said speaking for the Bulgarian National Television (BNT).
“We send off 2015 with 300 km of new motorways and more than 2,500 km of repaired roads in the republican road network. Other tens of projects will be finalised by December 30, realised with European financing under the OP Regional Development,” the minister commented further.
Commenting on the increase of the price of vignette stickers Minister Pavlova said that several previous governments made serious mistake but not revising the price with around 5 levs upturn every year, which according to her would had been fair towards the society and would had avoided a higher increase, like the current one.
She added that Bulgaria was one of the few countries in Europe not to have toll tax.
“In Germany, for instance, there are vignette stickers only for certain roads but the drivers there pay a toll tax,” Lilyana Pavlova commented further.
In her words, the government could have introduced a toll tax, too, and thus keep the price of the vignette stickers low but such a move would have brought much higher fees for the use of the republican road network.
“We approached the issue very seriously and chose the more social and accessible model,” she remarked.
