Bulgaria Says Russia May Enter Its Belene NPP Project as Strategic Investor

Russia may become a strategic investor in Bulgaria's Belene nuclear power plant if the move is economically and strategically advantegous, Bulgarian media reported on Thursday.

Currently, Bulgaria is negotiating for a fixed addition of 1.0 billion euro to 2.5 billion euro to the price for the construction of the plant with Russia's Atomstroyexport, business daily Dnevnik quoted Bulgarian Energy Minister Traycho Traykov as saying.

Bulgaria hired Atomstroyexport to build the 2,000 megawatt nuclear power plant for some 4.0 billion euro ($5.5 billion) in 2008 but this price is expected to rise with the inflation index, Dnevnik said.
