Bulgaria Says China's CITIC Construction Shows Interest towards Two Road Infrastructure Projects

Bulgaria's regional development ministry said on Monday that Chinese company CITIC Construction has expressed investment interest towards two major road infrastructure projects in Bulgaria.The projects envisage the construction of a tunnel under the Shipka peak in the Balkan mountain range and a motorway connecting the Bulgarian cities of Russe, on the Danube river, to Veliko Tarnovo, the ministry said in a statement.Once built, the 133-kilometre motorway connecting Russe to Veliko Tarnovo will become part of pan-European transport Corridor 9 linking Helsinki in Finland to the Greek Aegean port of Alexandroupolis. CITIC Construction is the construction and engineering subsidiary of the CITIC Group, a Chinese state-owned business conglomerate.Bulgaria's regional development minister Nikolay Nankov and representatives of CITIC Construction discussed options for signing a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) which will include specific parameters for establishing a public-private partnership, according to the statement.
