At 12.4%, Bulgaria's unemployment rate in June exceeded the EU's average which remained stable at 10.4%, data from the EU's statistics office showed.
In the euro area unemployment stood at 11.2% in June, Eurostat data published on Tuesday showed.
On an annual basis, unemployment rose 1.2% in the euro area and was 0.9% higher in the entire EU.
Some 25.1 million men and women in the EU were jobless in June, up by a total 127,000 from a month earlier and 2.17 million more than a year ago.
The lowest unemployment rate, 4.5%, was recorder in Austria, while the highest, 24.8%, was registered in Spain.
Compared with a year ago, the unemployment rate fell in seven member states, increased in 19 and remained stable only in Sweden.
