Sofia municipality has decided to take out a 67 million euro ($79 million) loan to finance the construction of a waste incineration plant on land adjacent to existing Sofia thermal power plant, public radio BNR reported on Thursday. The other 65 million euro needed for the construction of the facility will be secured under the European Union's operational programme Environment 2014-2020, BNR reported. Members of Sofia city council from opposition Socialist Party expressed concerns about the project's potential adverse impact on air quality, proposing that the facility be built outside the city, according to BNR. The proposal to take out a 67 million euro loan was submitted by Sofia mayor Yordanka Fandakova elected on the ticket of conservative GERB party, the dominant partner in the Bulgarian government coalition.($ = 0.8482)
