Bulgaria's NEK, Russia's Atomstroyexport Extend Contract for Belene N-Plant

Bulgarian power grid operator NEK said on Tuesday it extended by six months the contract with Russia's Atomstroyexport which it has hired to build the 2,000 megawatt (MW) Belene nuclear power plant.

The agreement was extended until the end of March, NEK spokeswoman Hristina Stoyanova told SeeNews.

The agreement for the construction of the Belene plant, on the Danube, was signed on November 29, 2006, and expired on September 30. NEK, part of the state-run energy conglomerate, Bulgarian Energy Holding (BEH) said last month that it has asked BEH to extend the contract as although NEK is signatory to the contract, BEH is the project owner.
