Bulgarian mobile operator Mobiltel said on Thursday it plans to invest more than 100 million euro ($136.2 million) in the development of technologies, IT infrastructure and products in 2014.
Mobiltel announced it has successfully completed its first Network Function Virtualisation (NFV) trial, as quoted in a press release of its parent company Telekom Austria.
"The successful start of the NFV technology is a result of the continuous investment the Group makes towards the development of technologies, IT infrastructure and products," Horst Pertl, Mobiltel CTO said.
"Our planned investment for 2014 equals more than 100 million euro. As one of the first European operators to trial NFV we are proud to successfully contribute to the Telekom Austria Group technology strategy," he added.
Mobiltel’s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) dropped 23.5% on a like-for-like basis to 158.6 million euro in 2013.
Mobiltel, operating under the Mtel brand, had a 39% market share in 2013.
