Bulgaria's Electricity System Operator (ESO) has opened a tender for the construction of a 400 kV power line between thermal power plant (TPP) Maritsa Iztok 2 and power substation Plovdiv, in southern Bulgaria, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). ESO intends to finance the contract using part of the proceeds of a grant with funds from the Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund (KIDSF), managed by the EBRD, the international lending institution said in a statement on Monday. The deadline for submitting offers is February 1, 2019.Kozloduy remained with two operational units of 1,000 MW each, Units 5 and 6, after Bulgaria closed down four older units of 440 MW each to address the nuclear safety concerns of the European Union prior to the country's accession to the bloc in 2007. The KIDSF finances or co-finances projects related to the decommissioning of the four units.
