Bulgaria’s Daniel Mitov Discussing EU Enlargement, Migration, Energy on Croatia Visit

Coordinated positions of Bulgaria and Croatia, as well as countries in Central and Eastern Europe, are key to addressing common challenges facing the EU, Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov has said during a meeting with his Croatian counterpart Miro Kovac.
Mitov, on a two-day official visit to Croatia, also discussed with Kovac the process of integration of the Western Balkan states into the EU, the migration crisis in Europe, major issues on the international agenda as well as relations between Sofia and Zagreb, according to a statement of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry released on Tuesday.
The two foreign ministers expressed the opinion that maintening peace and stability in the region and accession of the countries of the region to the EU and NATO are important targets but those countries must meet all the necessary criteria, the statement read.
Daniel Mitov recalled Bulgaria’s position that the country, which efficiently protects the EU’s external border, urges adoption of a common European solution to tackle the migration crisis.
"We rely on cooperation in Central and Eastern Europe to achieve better coordination of positions on European foreign policy," Miro Kovac said, according to the statement. "Bulgaria and Croatia have a great influence in this process," he added.
