State-owned water utility servicing the coastal region of Burgas has submitted a project for construction and upgrades of wastewater treatment plants worth an estimated 420 million levs ($241.4 million/214.7 million euro), Bulgaria's regional development ministry said. The project will benefit from EU financing under operational programme Environment 2014-2020, Nikolay Nankov, deputy minister of regional development, said in a statement earlier this week. The project envisages the reconstruction of four wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Burgas, Lozenets, Obzor and Tsarevo as well as the construction of two new stations - in Karnobat and Sveti Vlas.In order to prevent loss of water, the project also envisages reconstruction of some 100 km of water mains as well as overhaul and construction of 140 km of the sewer network in 13 urban areas in the region, each with population of more than 10,000 people.
