Foreign tourist arrivals in Bulgaria totalled 484,500 in April, up 3.7% over the year, official statistics showed on Tuesday.
Tourist arrivals from EU member states accounted for 57.4% of all foreign tourists last month, which is an increase by an annual 2.1%, the National Statistics Institute said in a press release.
Arrivals from Hungary and Italy rose by an annual 17.6% and 13.1%, respectively, while the number of Germans who visited Bulgaria went up by 11.8% year-on-year.
Tourist arrivals from European non-EU member states last month increased by 1.9% compared to April 2013, driven by an 8.2% increase in the number of visitors from Turkey and a 5.4% rise in arrivals from Serbia.
As many as 46.1% of all foreigners who visited Bulgaria in April were visiting friends or relatives, or just transiting the country, 37% were holiday makers and 16.9% came on business.
