Bulgaria reported a negative net flow of foreign direct investment (FDI) of 27.8 million euro ($33.9) in the first quarter of 2021, compared to a positive flow of 341 million euro in the same period of 2020.
The negative net FDI flow in the first three months of 2021, calculated according to the directional principle, was equal to 0.04% of Bulgaria's 2021 forecast gross domestic product, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said in a statement, citing preliminary data.
The largest net FDI inflow into Bulgaria in the review period, of 187.3 million euro, came from the Netherlands, followed by France with 144.4 million euro. The largest negative net FDI flow was registered in the UK - 240.1 million euro, and Russia - 147.9 million euro.
In March alone, Bulgaria recorded a negative net FDI flow of 8 million euro.
