Bulgaria had the second-highest recycling rate of plastic packaging waste among the member states of the European Union in 2017, after Lithuania, the bloc's statistical office said.Bulgaria generated 120 million tonnes of plastic packaging waste in 2017, of which it recycled 65%, Eurostat said in a statement on Tuesday. Bulgaria's plastic packaging recycling rate is well above the EU average of 42% for for 2017.Slovenia is also above the EU average, as 60% of plastic packaging waste was recycled in the country, marking the fourth-highest recycling rate in the review period. Croatia's recycling rate of plastic packaging waste was below the EU average - at 37%.Data for Romania was available only for 2016 when the country recycled 47% of 349 million tonnes of plastic packaging waste.
